Modern Warfare 4's launch has come in stages. Digital preorders got Campaign early access on October 16. DMZ early access opened on October 20. The full game, with multiplayer and therefore with Search and Destroy, arrives on October 23. Those dates are official. What was missing until IGN published Activision's figures was the part that actually governs your first night: the clock.
Reported, with an official spine. The October 16 Campaign, October 20 DMZ, and October 23 full launch dates are official and have been for weeks. The hour-by-hour unlock detail is IGN reporting what Activision gave it, corroborated by PC Gamer on October 16, and we could not read an official Activision page carrying the time table this run. Plan on it, but do not treat the clock itself as a locked official spec.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
A midnight local unlock is not a global siren. It is a rolling wave, and your squad rides it in whatever order the map puts them in. If you are in Los Angeles and your third is in London, you are eight hours apart on game one. That is a real planning problem for a community that lives on lobbies and ladders, and it is the sort of thing people discover at 00:05 instead of before.
- Set the meet time, not the launch time Pick one hour everyone can make and name the time zone. Midnight local means nothing to a four-stack that spans a continent.
- Preload now, not Friday IGN puts preload at October 14 from 9pm PT, with 115GB of SSD space needed on PC. A download that starts at unlock is a night spent watching a progress bar.
- Expect thin early lobbies The first hours in any region are a smaller pool. Hardcore Search and Destroy especially, since the playlist draws from a narrower slice of the player base.
- Physical copies are not in the ladder IGN notes the physical Standard Edition carries no early access. If that is your squadmate, their first game is October 23 regardless.
What is not confirmed
The dates are solid. The time table is press reporting of figures Activision supplied, not a page we could read on callofduty.com or Activision support this run. PC Gamer went further and said plainly that Activision had not given an exact hour for some of the early access unlocks, which is a fair reminder that this schedule has moved in pieces. There is also no multiplayer mode list and no Ranked Play date anywhere in it, so nobody should read a midnight unlock as a promise that every playlist is standing there waiting.
What would verify it
An official Activision or Call of Duty page carrying the regional unlock times, or launch patch notes that state the multiplayer go-live hour, would turn the clock from reported into official. The launch day itself verifies it the hard way. Until then, treat midnight local as the working plan and keep an eye on the official updates account for a slip.
The game unlocks on your clock. Your roster does not.
Preload tonight, confirm the install finished, and agree one meeting time with the time zone written down. Then the only thing left to argue about is who calls the bomb.
