On September 15, Xbox published its second Game Pass wave of the month and put Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on it for September 25, listed as arriving on the Premium tier while staying on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. On September 25 the official Game Pass account posted that the game was available that day. We covered the first half of that as a report. The second half has now happened.

What Xbox actually said
- The date September 25, 2026, named in the Xbox Wire lineup post ten days ahead and confirmed live by the official Game Pass account on the day.
- The tier Premium. The listing is explicit that this is a new tier for the title rather than a new arrival on the service.
- Still on the higher tiers Ultimate and PC Game Pass keep it. Nobody loses access, and the library entry covers cloud, console, handheld and PC.
- No game change Nothing in the post touches the build, the playlists, or the modes. This is an access change and nothing else.
Why hardcore SnD cares
A subscription tier is not feature news, so it is easy to scroll past. On a legacy title it is the closest thing the franchise has to a population switch. Black Ops 6 is two years old and its Hardcore playlists live or die on how many people can reach the game cheaply at nine on a Tuesday. Lowering the cost of entry is the only lever anyone has left on a back catalog title, and it just got pulled a month before Modern Warfare 4 pulls everyone away again.
- Queue health More subscribers on a cheaper tier means shorter fills. Queue length is what decides whether a legacy Hardcore Search lobby is still playable on a weeknight.
- The recruiting window is now The Modern Warfare 4 beta is closed and the game is four weeks out. This is the cheapest month there will be to get five other people into a party on a title everyone already knows.
- Looser lobbies A subscription wave brings in players who never bought the game, which loosens the matchmaking a two-year-old title tends to harden into.
- The excuse is gone Nobody has to buy a full-price back catalog game to run with your crew for the next four weeks.
A tier change on a legacy title is a population change. Treat it like one.
What is not settled
Nothing in either post says how long Black Ops 6 stays on the Premium tier, and subscription libraries rotate. Nothing says what a Premium subscription unlocks inside the game either, which is worth checking on the storefront before anyone builds a league night around it. Read this as access news and nothing further. Our earlier page asked for an Activision support page updating its Game Pass tier breakdown for the title. That still has not appeared, and it is the thing that would spell out what you actually get.
What it changes before October 23
There is no new build to learn right now. Black Ops 7 is one week into a three-week final Ranked season and Modern Warfare 4 is a month out. A legacy title that suddenly costs less to load is a reasonable place to park reps for four weeks: comms discipline, bomb plants, retakes, trade timing. None of that is tied to a particular gunplay model, and all of it carries into whatever Modern Warfare 4 turns out to be.
This updates our September 15 report, which carried the date on an outlet citing the platform. The platform has now said it twice in its own words, so the story moves from reported to confirmed. The date did not move.
